Sports Conference: Qatari Diplomatic Power – Asia Cup as a Model

Qatar has adopted a strategy for soft power in areas such as media, charitable work, and peace-building through regional and international mediations. However, soft power in sports has become prominent in recent years. The French magazine “Grand Continent” states that the construction of a genuine soft power policy for the State of Qatar began in 2010, focusing on sports diplomacy through organizing a series of global sporting events and investing in international sports clubs. According to the magazine’s report, Qatar has managed to maintain its economy and rally the international community around its influence in politics and sports. Additionally, it has succeeded in enhancing its position as an influential state in the Arab-Islamic world. Furthermore, Qatar has become a respected and influential actor in international relations. Qatar’s hosting of the 2023 Asian Cup is part of its efforts to strengthen its leadership in the sports field.
